Japanese movies in Venice Film Festivel
I have read a realy nice article in tokio graph about the upcoming japanese movies that are going to participate in Venice Film Festival between september 1-11.
This year in the competition section are two japanese movies the first is Tran Anh Hung’s “Norwegian Wood,” adapted from Haruki Murakami’s novel of the same name, and the other is Takashi Miike’s “13 Assassins” remake .
Norwegian Wood action is set in the 1960′s . Toru Watanabe & Naoko become closer after the suicide of their mutual friend. The pair eventually fall in love, but after they consumate their love, Naoko feels guilt and leaves Toru. Toru then meets a fellow drama classmate Midori, whose bright personality attracts Toru. Midori is also attracted to Toru and their friendship grows during Naoko’s absence. Asian Media Wiki for the teaser. The movie will star Rinko Kikuchi as Naoko she played in Liar Game 2 and Ken’ichi Matsuyama you probably remember him as L in Deth Note he will also star in live action Ganz in 2011 with Nino from Arashi .
13 Assassins is a remake of Eiichi Kudo’s 1963 film of the same name, which at the time drew some fire for being a bit too much like Seven Samurai, despite the fact that 13 Assassins is a solid picture in its own right. Here is a synopsis: “In the era of the Shogun, an evil young lord rapes and kills, assured of immunity by law. But he didn’t count on the Thirteen Assassins. A feared secret force, each with their own deadly skill, the Assassins undertake a suicide mission to wipe out the Lord. As he embarks on a perilous journey, the Assassins close off his escape route and ambush him in a village of death. But little do they know, they are outnumbered four to one by the Lord’s crack team of bodyguards. The streets will run red”. Here you can see some pics from the movie . The movie is staring Takayuki Yamada from Crows Zero ,Koji Yakusho and many other.
More in the Orizzonti section will compet Sion Sono movie “Cold Fish “
